10 POPULAR Homeschool Curriculum Favorite PICKS

After spending 10 years researching curricula, I’ve discovered a lot of popular homeschool curricula I love! I will share a few of my favorite options with you in this article. These include secular and Christian options, programs parents can do if they homeschool and work full-time, and more hands-on options.

Let’s take a look.

BJU Press [Online and Boxed]

BJU Press is a top Christian homeschool curriculum produced in Greenville, South Carolina.

With a focus on excellent academic outcomes, this spiral program produces gorgeous and high-quality workbooks and video lessons children can really enjoy.

BJU offers online homeschool curriculum or paper-based homeschool kindergarten lesson plans.

This way, you can choose more online or offline homeschooling methods if they suit you more.

We use BJU Press and love their video-based courses.

This means we get workbooks and manipulatives in the mail, which the children can do without too much adult supervision.

In high school, children can do everything by themselves.

As such, BJU Press is an excellent idea if you’re considering homeschooling and working full-time!

Schoolhouse Teachers [Online for All Ages and Grades]

If you want a program where you can purchase curriculum once for your whole family and not pay a penny more, Schoolhouse Teachers is your program!

Schoolhouse Teachers offers a curriculum for your entire family, for all grades, and all the electives you could possibly imagine.

In fact, it has the most extensive range of electives I’ve ever seen in a single homeschool curriculum.

Teaching from a Christian worldview, Schoolhouse offers your basic open-and-go boxes for all ages so you know where to start.

But, because they have such a massive elective range, you can indulge in interest-based learning.

Want a dinosaur homeschool curriculum? You can find almost any popular homeschool course there!

Time 4 Learning [Secular, Online]

Time 4 Learning is a non-religious homeschool curriculum that offers an accredited online virtual school and a more at-home version.

Offering all subjects and grades, this flexible curriculum provides a self-paced homeschool curriculum option.

It can also be used for after-school enrichment classes if children need extra tutoring on specific subjects.

Memoria Press [Classical]

Memoria Press is a curriculum program for homeschooling that follows a non-traditional approach to education by using the classical method. This method is based on the trivium, which is a three-part approach to education.

During the primary school years, children learn the foundational knowledge that forms the basis of their education. This is known as the grammar stage of classical education.

In middle school, students learn to think logically and critically using the information they have acquired during the grammar stage. They engage in activities such as debating, meditating on concepts, and writing argumentative essays. This is known as the logic stage.

During high school, students learn to present themselves in a winsome and gracious manner. The focus is on effective communication and public speaking. This is known as the rhetoric stage.

In addition to these stages, children also learn Latin as part of the curriculum. Learning Latin helps them become skilled wordsmiths as so many English words come from Latin.

K12 [Online Public School]

K12 is an American online public school.

It is free to use for American citizens as it is government-funded.

As its name suggests, this program offers a kindergarten homeschool curriculum through to Grade 12.

There are lots of animations in the program to keep children interested, and this can be a good choice if you’re looking for a public school education at home.

Veritas Press [Virtual, LIVE Online, Classical]

If you’re homeschooling and working full-time, Veritas Press is a beautiful option.

That’s because they offer an accredited homeschool curriculum where children teach children face-to-face in an online environment.

Lessons are very engaging, and homeschoolers can socialize with one another in a virtual environment.

If they have any tricky questions, they can ask the teacher because the teacher is doing lessons LIVE.

Students can also collaborate with one another.

Veritas Press also offers unaccredited and paper-based options, which are more affordable.

Acellus [Intelligent Learning Curriculum]

Acellus is a good option if you’re looking for an online curriculum that pinpoints your student’s weaknesses and helps kids work on those pain points.

It’s also good if you’re a working homeschool mom looking for an accredited secular homeschool curriculum.

That’s because you can use their online program, Acellus Academy.

Remember that an accredited homeschool curriculum will usually be a lot more expensive.

So, if you don’t need accreditation, think about going with Power Homeschool (their non-accredited homeschool version).

Notgrass and Apologia [History and Science & More]

History, Geography, and Science can be tricky subjects to teach in a homeschool.

But there are two standout popular homeschool curriculum parents love.

Why?

Because they can be used as a family-style homeschool curriculum where the whole family learns together (lots of fun for mom if she has time!).

Let’s take a look at these options below.

Popular Homeschool History

The popular history and geography program, Notgrass, teaches history from a Biblical worldview, chronologically integrating secular history with ecclesiastical history.

So there’s no jumping around as you move through the historical timeline.

The open-and-go curriculum books are colorful and include hands-on activities & workbooks to reinforce concepts and make things more enjoyable.

Popular Homeschool Science

Apologia is also popular and provides both hard-copy lessons and video lessons online.

This creation-science homeschool curriculum has also branched out in later years to provide a complete Christian homeschool curriculum for almost all ages and subjects.

It is loved for its focus on critical thinking, creativity, and hands-on nature.

Books are easy to use as older children can read them themselves, and parents only need to be involved if they want to be.

Sonlight and Bookshark [Literature-Based]

Sonlight is a boxed homeschool curriculum that is primarily literature-based.

They use lots of books from this Christian homeschool booklist to teach children through stories and great literature.

There’s quite a focus on teaching children good character through many books often used in Classical and Charlotte Mason education.

Sonlight also offers a secular literature-based homeschool curriculum option with Bookshark.
