DESIGNER GOWNS: THE ARTISTRY OF MADASASA

Designer Indo western dresses are generally a fusion of western style and Asian culture. On the other hand, designer gowns are more of a high-end dress, featuring elegant and luxurious fabrics, intricate embroidery and exquisite silhouette. Designers and design houses makes designer gown from classy to elegant depending on the aesthetic of clients.

Recently, I went to this Indo western store, called Mada Sasa, nestled in Kolkata, India. Stepping into the portal of the store, I felt myself standing amidst symphony of colours, texture and styles. The cultures of east and west braided perfectly and effortlessly. As I bended through the aisle of the store, I could observe the exquisite craftsmanship devouring in every piece on the racks – telling a story of the hard work and dedication of the artisans. Rich cotton and silk, embellished with sequin and shimmers, each piece gave a sense of individuality in itself. Whether seeking for a cocktail party wear gown or an indo western one piece to rock that sun-downer, one can find a diverse range of collection for every occasion.

‘Our drape dresses, pieces with asymmetric cuts, gowns, and clean silhouettes have over the decade won the trust of clients domestically and across the globe’ said Mr. Amit Bajoria, cofounder of Mada Sasa Exports. He also stated that they always strive to be a part of the growing design ideology and also moving towards an environmental and social sustainability. What excited me the most was the unique way in which each dress was curated. Upon having a word with Mrs. Swati Bajoria, the cofounder and Designer of Mada Sasa Exports, she expressed her love for drapes and how she blends it into her designs. She further said that, the designs here in Mada Sasa are made to suit every individual. ‘We offer a wide range of silhouettes to choose from which is inclusive of any size, since we always focus on body positivity’. The brand focuses on diversity and welcomes everybody with open arms to embrace and express themselves.

Without waiting further, I quickly endeavor myself into the collection. I picked up four designer gowns to try from their collection. The first and foremost dress that caught my eyes was an asymmetric sequined chic wear dress, adorned in three beautiful colors, white, black and maroon. The dress was made so beautifully, it felt like the dress glided smoothly onto my body the minute I wore it, and it’s drape enhanced my overall posture. Bamber Silk was used to ensemble the dress. My favorite part of the dress was the x-embroidery on the collar which gathered the attention of the whole dress. The embroidery

was done very intricately, using sequins, beads and cutdana. The dress was perfect for a cocktail party. The maroon and black color was perfect when looking for trousseau shopping, to wear for any evening event, whereas the white one which I liked the most, can also be styled as a day wear for any occasion.

A designer slip dress clubbed with an embellished jacket was the last and the most favorite piece on my trial list. The dress screamed showstopper in every possible way to me. Crafted in Bamber Silk again, the dress portrayed a perfect blend of boldness and style, once worn. The two piece gown has a slip dress inside with a beautiful string work at the front, paired with a power sleeved jacket with mesmerizing craftsmanship. The embroidery was done with sequin, beads and cutdana in the most precise way to balance the whole fusion. I can only feel the intricacy of the embroidery as I ran my fingers over it.
