What Should You Know Before Getting Dental Implants?

Advancements in cosmetic dentistry have made dental implants one of the most popular procedures among patients wanting to replace missing teeth caused by ageing, injury, excessive wear, or periodontal disease.

Patients who opt for a dental implant procedure don’t feel a difference between their implants and natural teeth. Miracle Dental Center uses the latest techniques and technology in dentistry to provide Bucks County Dental Implants that restore your smile and dental health. Dental implants are an outstanding investment in long-term oral health.

What Are Dental Implants

A dental implant is a titanium post that is set in the jaw and acts as an artificial tooth root to which a crown is attached.  Titanium dental implants are biocompatible. This material easily integrates with the jawbone and is not harmful to the body. Dental implants protect against bone loss by providing stimulation of the jaw.

Dental Implants can stave off facial sagging and premature aging, and keep you free of gum disease. Once in place, dental implants maintain function and aesthetics like original teeth.

A healthy and beautiful smile mandates adequate bone density to support your teeth. Teeth and bones add to your facial structure which is why people with long-term bone loss have hollow cheeks and receding chins.

Preparations For Dental Implants

Dental implants have become much more affordable and accessible to patients than ever before. If you are considering dental implants, take some time to do your research.

It’s essential to understand everything about dental implants before you commit to the procedure. The entire procedure can take between six to nine months. The process includes:

Pre-surgical Assessment

At Miracle Dental Center, our in-house dental specialists will thoroughly assess a patient’s candidacy for dental implants.

The initial assessment process involves a careful examination of the patient’s oral health.

At our Bucks County dental office, we customize treatments as per the needs of our patients

Surgery

The surgery involves three stages:

  •  Placement of the implant

A dental implant is fitted into the jawbone beneath the gum tissue. The gum tissue is stitched back into place. With time, the tissue will heal. The implant will bond with the bone and attach itself to the gum in three to six months.

  •  Attaching the abutment

Once the tissue is healed, our experienced dentists will attach an abutment to the implant. An abutment is a post that connects the replacement tooth to the implant.

  • Fitting the crown

An artificial replacement tooth or crown is made and your dentist or specialist attaches it to the abutment.

It is common for patients to experience some bruising, swelling, and localized pain after the surgery. Patients should avoid hard candy, tobacco, and caffeine in the aftermath of the surgery. If a patient with osteoporosis chooses to get dental implants, bone grafts may be necessary to correct the effects of osteoporosis and give your new smile the support it needs.
